Fresh Views On Taboos

Jessica had tried all the advice she could to improve her relationship.

She wanted more time, more intimacy, and yes, a better sex life – but John was sooo frustrating.

She’d done what the books said: give gifts, be helpful, dress sexier.

She’d done what her friends said: gone to counselling.

She’d done what the movies said: and gave him space.

She was more than frustrated.

Nothing f***ing worked.

So after reading some self-help books (did those really do anything?) and they inspired her to take a trip to Hampi, India. She made her way off the plan, with a heavy pack, through the dust and rocks of Hampi, all the way to the commune where the guru lived.

She’d invested jaw-dropping amounts of time and money, and left so much of her life behind for this journey.

It was said the guru was a super-wise man, who gave powerful, mystical answers that unlocked people’s hopes and dreams.

Sure, it sounded crazy, but there’s so many people, cultures, tribes and talents on the planet, it wasn’t impossible, and she was so desperate, it was worth a shot.

Anyway, she finally got her audience with the guru, and she asked for help on her seemingly impossible-to-fix relationship.

The guru didn’t give her an answer though, instead he asked her one question, he said “You’ve tried so many strategies and tactics, but life is a process of rhythms and timings and harmonies. Have you put any focus on timing? Do all your great western books teach you the timing of a man? Or are you more a child, attempting to create beautiful relationship music by banging awkwardly on a different pot or pan each time?”

Jessica stood there, dumb-founded.

She’d never thought about things this way.

It was a new idea, a completely fresh view.

And she realized some things:

• She was dressing sexy when he was broken, exhausted, and beaten from a long day at work, just trying to get a beer and relax.
• She’d gone to counselling not when he was on board, but by bullying John into allowing it.
• She’d given him space when everyone else had drifted and abandoned him, when he probably most needed a friend.

Her tips & tricks may have been totally right all along…

…but the people who’d given them to her had said absolutely nothing about timing.

She felt it in her core. This was not something she needed to take notes on, research, or figure out.

The guru’s idea cut straight to the heart of everything…

…Jessica’s timing was all wrong.

She started to grin.

So did the guru.

She returned to John, and brought all her old tactics back with a vengeance, but this time, she paid very close attention to his mood, and the timing of life, and she used them well.

The sun started to set as they kissed, movie-style.

And life was more beautiful than ever.

Epilogue: Jessica spent tons of time, money, and suffering to figure out a minor tweak to her life, and all it took was a flick-of-the-wrist, fresh-idea, delivered as wisdom to penetrate her mind and change everything. It literally happened instantly, in a split-second, a new path was unfolding for her.
